LACONIA–Betty-Jeanne D. Maheux, 84, of 37 Girard Street died Wednesday morning, September 23, 2015 at home surrounded by her family after a brief period of failing health. Betty-Jeanne was born on November 25, 1930 in Lowell, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Franklin E. and Jessie L. (Goodwin) Bassett. She moved to Laconia at the age of 5. At the age of 14 she spent two years at the TB Sanitarium in Glencliff, New Hampshire. She was the first person to be rehabilitated by the State of Massachusetts for TB. She entered high school at the age of 18 and graduated with the Laconia High School Class of 1952 at the age of 21. Betty-Jeanne apprenticed photography under local photographer Frank Poblenz who taught her the art of re-touching photo negatives, printing and coloring black and white and sepia photos with oils. She also worked for various photographers in Laconia including Bob St. Louis, as well as doing freelance work throughout the New England states. A self taught artist, she taught art and graphic art classes in Franklin and then moved to Laconia and opened her studio “The Loft” when she married her husband Paul L. Maheux in 1968. As a prolific artist she created hundreds of paintings in her long career. Betty-Jeanne was a very active parishioner at Sacred Heart Church decorating and helping to plan church functions. She taught catechism classes there for 17 years, and was also a member of The Ladies of Sacred Heart. A deeply religious person, she had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother. Betty-Jeanne undertook three separate pilgrimages to the village of Medjugorje which was then located in Yugoslavia. Besides her parents, Betty-Jeanne is predeceased by one brother, Franklin E. Bassett, Jr. Betty-Jeanne is survived by her husband of 47 years, Paul L. Maheux; her son, Gedeon P. Maheux and his wife Mindy of Colfax, North Carolina; her brother Donald F. Bassett of St. Cloud, Florida; her step-sisters, Louise Raymond, and Linda Bassett; and her adopted sister, Judy Poblenz Perault of East Andover, New Hampshire. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 11AM at St. Andre Bessette Parish – Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia. Gilmanton—–Ralph David Neff, age 85, died on Friday September 18, 2015 at the Genesis Laconia Healthcare Center in Laconia, NH. Ralph was born on July 9, 1930, in Milton, MA and graduated from Milton High School. He also attended Northeastern University, majoring in electrical engineering. Ralph honorably served his country from 1951-1954 during the Korean War, reaching the rank of Army Sergeant. He worked at Vernitron for many years as a production designer for electric connectors resulting in a few patents. Upon retirement, he volunteered at the Lakes Region General Hospital. He enjoyed sailing. especially racing his H boat on Lake Winnipesaukee. He and his wife Janet made many trips to other countries and traveled around the U.S. in their RV. Ralph also kept a lovely garden and enjoyed cross country skiing, hiking and biking. Aside from his wife of 28 years Janet (Dodge) Neff, Ralph is survived by his step-son Clifford Miller, his granddaughters Jessica and Shaina Miller and Several Nieces and Nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Minnie Neff, his two sisters Marian Anderson and Ruth Bent and his brother Gordon Neff. Per Ralph’s wishes, there will be a celebration of his life at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH at a later date. Roland “Buddy” Henry Bolduc, 92, died on Thursday, Sept 17, 2015 at the New Hampshire Veterans Home. He was born in Lakeport, NH on June 7, 1923, second child of Charles and Aurore Bolduc. He was one of 14 children. He attended Sacred Heart School in Laconia and worked the Bolduc family farm all his life. The farm continues to exist today in Gilford, NH. He was a lifelong resident of the Lakes Region area. Buddy served in the Army under General Patton in Germany during World War II. After return from the war he and his brother Charles (Sam) ran Bolduc’s Construction for many years. They built numerous homes throughout the Lakes Region. Buddy enjoyed helping people, doing so most of the time for only a “Thank you.” He dearly loved his mother and family. He was very religious and constructed The Immaculate Conception Church for his family, sitting proudly across from the Bolduc farm, offering Latin Masses. He is survived by his children: Susan Rostom of Florida; Nancy Farr of Florida; Thomas Bolduc of Florida; Sandra Froman of NH; Rickey Bolduc of Florida and Steve Bolduc of NH, stepson: Alfred Fecteau of NH. He is survived by four brothers: Maurice, Ernest, Armand and Robert and three sisters: Anita McKeown, Lauretta Seabeck, and Helen Gaudet. He is survived by nineteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wives: Therese Campbell Bolduc, Jeannette Fecteau Bolduc, and his son Michael. In addition to his parents,he is predeceased by three brothers: Kenneth, Charles (Sam) and Hector Bolduc, and by two sisters Theresa Tracy and Barbara Colby. She was born on February 12, 1933, in Holderness, N.H. a daughter of the late Elton Evans and Barbara (Paquette) Evans Slaughter. Barbara was raised in Campton and graduated from Plymouth High School, and helped her mother to run the town’s phone operation system. A few years later she met and married the love of her life, Joseph D. Lane, to whom she was married until his death in 1996. She lived in Laconia for 60 years, assisting her husband with their business, Laconia Office Machine, up through 1978, but took the greatest pride in her title as homemaker. She enjoyed planning events to bring family together, preparing and cooking sit down meals, and also going out to eat. Her cats were her family too. She loved to be at the lake, ocean or pool on a warm summer day and had to have fried clams at least once each summer. The biggest joy in her life was to spend time with her sons, their wives and her three grandchildren. Members of her family include her sons: Dennis E. Lane and his wife Ava-lyn of Londonderry, N.H., Ronald J. Nadja worked for many years as a secretary for the New Hampshire Department of Employment Security, for Globe Department Store and also the State of New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game. She was born on September 8, 1945 in Manchester, England, the daughter of the late Sylvio and Eunice Burby (Fletcher). Sylvia loved spending time with her family and crocheting. She met many people and made many friends while socializing at the park and on her daily walks with her dog Makita. In her earlier years, Sylvia and her late husband of 23 years, Richard, enjoyed camping and going on motorcycle rides together. Belmont——James “Jim” Mooney Jr., 81, of Brown Hill Road, died at Mountain Ridge Center, Tuesday, September 22, 2015. Jim was born April 14, 1934 in Franklin, NH, son to the late James H. and Muriel (Merrill) Jennes. He worked as a roofing foreman for over forty years for Page Roofing Company. He also worked for the Laconia High School as a custodian for ten years before retiring in 1997. Jim was also a member and past commander of the American Legion-Wilkins-Smith Post #1 as well as a member the VFW Post 1670 of Laconia as well. Better known as “Sonny” by his family, he enjoyed fishing, New England sports and had a love for all animals. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Dawn E. (Walker) Mooney, two sons, James Mooney III and his wife Bonnie of Belmont, N.H., Steven Mooney and his wife Sue of Zebulan, N.C.; two daughters, Carol Haddock and her husband Chris of Meredith and Sandra Mooney of Center Barnstead; two brothers Raymond Mooney and William Mooney both of Gilsum, NH; two sisters, Kathleen Sweeney and June Houle also of Laconia; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces as well as two special felines, Mandy and C.C.. Belmont, NH – Patricia “Pat” Teichert, 75, formerly of Laconia, NH, died October 9, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Patricia was born in Waterbury, CT on July 20, 1940. She was raised in Oakville, CT and graduated from Watertown High School in CT in 1958. She met her husband Juozas and a year later they married in 1959. They raised four children together in Connecticut. They enjoyed frequent vacations in the Lakes Region and eventually decided to re-locate to New Hampshire permanently in 1978. She worked at the Laconia State School and Training Center and transitioned to Concord State Hospital working as a Training and Development Assistant. She retired in 2002 to devote more time to family and friends. She was an active member of the Laconia Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Survivors include: her children – Joseph Teichert of Meredith, Daughter Mary Bolduc and husband James Bolduc of Belmont, Son John Teichert of Los Angeles, CA and daughter Diana Mattes and husband Arwid of Aliso Viejo, CA. Her grandchildren are Jonathan Belfontaine, Justin Belfontaine, Bethany Teichert, Abigail Teichert, Alexander Mattes and four great-grandchildren: Noah Belfontaine, Julian Belfontaine, Gabriel Belfontaine and Olivia Belfontaine. Laconia—–Francis M. Ludtka of Laconia, formerly of Connecticut, peacefully passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the age of 60 years old. He was born on December 30, 1954 in Rochester, NY, the son of the late Francis H. and Theresa M. Ludtka (Katalenas). Francis proudly served his country in the U.S. Air force from 1974-1978. He worked as a machine operator for Aavid Engineering until his retirement in 1992. He loved the Yankees, the NY Giants, golf and Nascar. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren who were his world. Francis is survived by his wife of 34 years Valerie Ludtka (Delchiaro); Four daughters, Melissa Provencher and her husband Matt, Michele Ludtka and her partner Andrew Leitch, Tracy McMath and her husband Doug and Sherry Suttles and her husband Chris; a sister, Laurie A. Philip F. Cerveny, Jr, DDS, 80, died on October 11, 2015 at Lakes Region General Hospital after a period of declining health. Born in Goodland, Kansas in 1935 to Philip and Gertrude Cerveny, he started his career in dentistry in Maplewood, NJ after serving for four years in Germany for the US Army Dental Corps. He moved to Gilford in 1967 and practiced in Laconia for 30 years prior to his retirement from his One Mill Plaza office. Phil was a member of the Lakes Region Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and various dental study groups. After growing up and attending school in Oakmont, PA, he graduated from Bucknell University in 1957 and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School in 1961. Married to Gwen for 58 years, their family includes Philip (Kip) F. Cerveny, III, his wife, Beverly, and their children, Matthew, Dylan and Anna in Anchorage, AK; Lee Cerveny and her children, Nicholas and Alexander in Seattle, WA; Ned Cerveny and Donna Russo in Bow; and Gregg Cerveny and Amy Mitson in Lebanon. Phil is also survived by his brother, Robert Cerveny and his wife, Janice of Port St. Lucie, FL and their children, Shannon, Karen and Robert Jr., and his sister, Susan Johnston and her husband Skip, of Sugartree, TN and their children Jennifer and J-Rae and their families. Phil was an avid golfer, hiker and skier. A long-time member of the Laconia Country Club, where he was a past president and member of the club’s board. He volunteered for several years as hike-master for the Gilford Outing Club. Phil was also a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club’s New England Four Thousand Footers, a 13-year Gilford Youth Baseball coach, and served on the Gilford Middle-High School Board, including the Building Committee in 1971-73 which planned construction of the new school. Phil was also very active in the Gunstock Nordic Association, and served as an official at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. There will be a private celebration of his life at a later date. Gilford—-Margaret “Peggy” Janet McCauley 80, of Checkerberry Lane died suddenly at her home Wednesday, October 14, 2015 with her loving husband by her side. Peggy was born July 28, 1935 in Hoboken, NJ daughter to the late Lester and Cecilia (Miller) Schenkerberg. Much of her early life was as a resident of Jersey City, NJ where she met her future husband, Robert J. McCauley while she was still in her teenage years. She was educated and worked as a bookkeeper, a life skill that served her family well. Her passing was on the eve of their 60th wedding anniversary. Shortly after they began a family, they decided to relocate to Freehold, NJ where they resided from 1960 through 1987 when they retired to Gilford after many years of vacationing on Lake Winnipesaukee. Peggy was a selfless, giving person always ready to help and support others. When her children were growing up, she insisted with Cub Scouts, school activities and countless projects that needed to get done right now because someone “forgot”. Bob worked long hours, nights and weekends for many years, often more than one job, with Peggy always ready to take care of the family at home. As the children grew, she discovered an interest and talent in crafting ceramic works of art. Eventually acquiring her own kiln and teaching classes at home to other adults with desire to learn. She enjoyed visiting her sister at the Jersey Shore. Some of her simple pleasures in life included admiring her flowers and the hummingbirds. Margaret, known as Peggy to most of her friends and family, is survived by Robert “Bob” McCauley of almost 60 years; three children, Kenneth McCauley and his wife Sharon of Stewartsville, NJ, James McCauley and his wife Theresa of Belmont, NH and Kathleen Zafarana and her husband Bruce also of Belmont, NH; six grandchildren, Jennifer McCauley-Robinson and her husband Preston, Erin Liberto and her husband Mat, Ryan McCauley and his wife Melissa all of New Jersey, Ian McCauley and his wife Jessica, Brendan and Sean McCauley all of Belmont, NH; eight great-grand children, two sisters, Ruth Goldey of Pittsford, VT and Cecilia Hart of Weehawken, NJ; Sister-in-Law, Barbara Schenkerberg of Bogota, NJ; Brother-in-Law, Kenneth J. McCauley and his wife Linda of Toms River, NJ as well as many nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her brother, William Schenkerberg and two Brothers-in-Law, Charles Goldey and Martin Hart. TILTON – Richard “Dick” Rowe, 81, of 17 River Road, died Tuesday, October 12, 2015 at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia. He was born on April 15, 1934 in Laconia, the son of Merton and Grace (Foster) Rowe. Dick served in the USAF and received a Bachelors Degree in Economics from New England College and later a Bachelors Degree in Education from Plymouth State University. He worked for several companies in earlier years, such as Carpenter & Paterson and Scott & Williams. He taught math and science in the Tilton and Northwood School Systems. Dick also worked as a truck driver for Audley Construction. He was a classic car enthusiast, enjoyed snowmobiling, NASCAR, skiing and working in the woods. Dick was an avid health and fitness buff and a follower of Edgar Cayce’s works. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rita (Martin) Rowe of Tilton, his son, Stephen Rowe and his wife Pilar of Happy Valley, OR and two grandchildren; Nicholas Rowe of East Lansing, MI and Hunter Rowe of Happy Valley, OR. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Charles Rowe and one sister, Clarice Russell. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 2PM on Saturday, October 17, 2015 in the family plot at Union Cemetery, Academy Street, Laconia. Philip F. Cerveny, Jr, DDS, 80, died on October 11, 2015 at Lakes Region General Hospital after a period of declining health. Born in Goodland, Kansas in 1935 to Philip and Gertrude Cerveny, he started his career in dentistry in Maplewood, NJ after serving for four years in Germany for the US Army Dental Corps. He moved to Gilford in 1967 and practiced in Laconia for 30 years prior to his retirement from his One Mill Plaza office. Phil was a member of the Lakes Region Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and various dental study groups. After growing up and attending school in Oakmont, PA, he graduated from Bucknell University in 1957 and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School in 1961. Married to Gwen for 58 years, their family includes Philip (Kip) F. Cerveny, III, his wife, Beverly, and their children, Matthew, Dylan and Anna in Anchorage, AK; Lee Cerveny and her children, Nicholas and Alexander in Seattle, WA; Ned Cerveny and Donna Russo in Bow; and Gregg Cerveny and Amy Mitson in Lebanon. Phil is also survived by his brother, Robert Cerveny and his wife, Janice of Port St. Lucie, FL and their children, Shannon, Karen and Robert Jr., and his sister, Susan Johnston and her husband Skip, of Sugartree, TN and their children Jennifer and J-Rae and their families. Phil was an avid golfer, hiker and skier. A long-time member of the Laconia Country Club, where he was a past president and member of the club’s board. He volunteered for several years as hike-master for the Gilford Outing Club. Phil was also a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club’s New England Four Thousand Footers, a 13-year Gilford Youth Baseball coach, and served on the Gilford Middle-High School Board, including the Building Committee in 1971-73 which planned construction of the new school. Phil was also very active in the Gunstock Nordic Association, and served as an official at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. There will be a private celebration of his life at a later date. She was born on December 30, 1938 in Methuen, Mass., the daughter of Edward and Isabella (Mulvey) Pelczar. Patricia moved to the Lakes Region in 1977. She was a proud homemaker; bringing up her children until later in life. She is survived by her son, Steven Casazza, two daughters; Sharon Lange and husband David and Carolyn Lund and husband David both of Laconia, She leaves a grandson, Frank Lund of Franklin, She also leaves 4 granddaughters, Karena Watson of Illinois, Shayna Lange & Stephanie Lund of Laconia and Heather Joyce of Colorado, 6 great grandchildren, her sister and best friend, Maryann Miller and her husband Walter of North Andover, MA, her former husband, Frank Casazza of Laconia, Son-in Law Mike Joyce of Belmont and three nephews. Laconia —– Shirley L (Gay) Cass, 82 of Edwards Street died Wednesday October 7, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family following a period of declining health. Shirley was born November 18, 1932 in Laconia, NH, the daughter of the late Maurice and Gladys (Abbott) Gay. Shirley worked for the New England Telephone Co. for 27 years, retiring in 1997. After her retirement, she enjoyed working part-time at Whittemore’s Flower Shop, were she loved making someone’s day with a fresh bouquet. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at her camp in Kennebunk, ME. In addition, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafts and planting beautiful flowers at her home. She looked forward to the Christmas Holiday in decorating her home for the Edwards Street Christmas Lights. Shirley is survived by her sons, Dennis Cass and his wife Renee of Hendersonville, TN, David Cass and his partner Leo Moyen of Providence, RI, daughters, Gay Ferland and her partner Bob Fitzpatrick of Belmont NH, Brenda Frink and her husband Andrew of Surry, NH, and Tammy Thomas of Spartanburg, SC. Belmont—–Velma Louise DeVos, age 79, of Range Road, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015 surrounded by her family at her home. She was born on April 19, 1936 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Marthalee (Shehan) Abney. Velma worked as an LNA and for Social Services for twenty years in Illinois before retiring and moving to New Hampshire. Velma loved going to plays in New York City and traveling with her husband John to Hawaii and Florida. Velma is survived by her husband of 59 years, John DeVos; a daughter Denise DeVos-Marden and her husband Lewis Marden Jr. of Belmont; a son John B. DeVos and his husband Jeff Whitney of Fort Collins, Colorado; Brothers Darrell Abney and his wife Sue of Colona, Illinois and Donald Abney and his partner Cathy of Davenport, Iowa, and a sister Lois Jones and her husband Robert of East Moline, Illinois. Laconia—-Cody James Ryan 24, of Warren Street Died unexpectedly, Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Cody was born October 25, 1990 in Laconia, son to Lawrence “Sonny” J. And Tammy J. (Bailey) Ryan. He was a graduate of Laconia High School in 2009. Cody was an avid basketball player, having played all throughout high school and also played on an AAU team – NH Sharpshooters for five years. He also enjoyed construction, having taken all the classes offered in high school and has stayed involved in the field ever since. Cody not only loved basketball but what was most important to him was his family. He enjoyed growing up with his cousins and spending time with them as the years past. Family truly meant the world to him and he will be dearly missed by many. In addition to his parents, Sonny and Tammy Ryan, he is survived by his brother Travis D. Ryan also of Laconia; an uncle, Ronald Bailey and his wife Debra of Brewster, MA; four aunts, Donna Clairmont and her husband Francis “Frank”, Jeanne Day and her husband Norman, Judy Ryan, Sandy LaPierre and her husband Rocky, all of Laconia; as well as several cousins. Laconia—–Leo Paul Flibotte, 88, of Shane Way, died on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Berlin, NH on May 28, 1927, the son of the late Napoleon and Laura Flibotte (Mercier). Leo proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He studied engineering at University of NH and worked at Barker Steel Company in Watertown, MA for forty years. Leo was a member of The Tewksbury Lions Club and the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis, dancing, fishing and boating. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Mavis Flibotte (Jordan); daughters Calla Baxter, Terri Westaway, Rondi Forest and Mary Blake and seven grandchildren, Jarod and Joshua Westaway, Mariah and Haley Baxter, Joseph McArdle, Kelsie Forest and Donald Blake. Leo also leaves behind eight nieces and nine nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his sisters Pauline Lambert and Evelyn Wilson. There will be no calling hours.
