LAKEPORT – Nellie Clark “Nell” Bryenton, 93, of 167 Belvidere Street, died Friday, March 1, 2013 at Lakes Region General Hospital. She was born in Laconia, the daughter of Herbert C. and Nellie M. (Clark) Bryant. Nell worked in younger years for Gile Mill and JJ Newberry’s. She worked for several years in the hot lunch program for the Elm Street School in Laconia. She was a member of the Lakeport Historical Museum and was a lifelong member of the United Baptist Church in Lakeport. She loved reading, dancing, golfing and camping. Nell also enjoyed refinishing furniture. She enjoyed traveling and baking for her wonderful neighbors, but most of all Nell enjoyed being with family the most. She is survived by her son, Robert E. Bryenton and his wife Debra of Asheville, NC, one daughter, Fay E. Nutter and her husband Robert of Northfield and Sebring, FL, one brother-in-law, George E. Bryenton and his wife Ruth of Laconia, five grandchildren; Christopher C. Nutter and his wife Dawn, Kimberly E. Perron and her husband Adam, Amy L. Burke and her husband Gary, Travis J. Bryenton and Kibby J. Fergusson and her husband Donald, nine great grandchildren; Tyler and Zachary Nutter, Anthony, Eliese and Joseph Perron, Rachel and Kevin Burke and Iain and Anna Margaret Fergusson and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Whedon was born August 31, 1920 in Franklin, N.H., the son of the late Myrtle L. (Haley) and Marshall D. Whedon, Sr. He was a longtime resident of Laconia and was a 1939 graduate of Laconia High School. He served in the U. S. LACONIA-Ann Graham Hood, 81 of 227 Ledges Drive, #322, Taylor Community, died on February 28th at Lakes Region General Hospital. Ann, the daughter of Clifford Lloyd and Pearl Ivalou Graham, was born in Bristol, Tennessee and was raised in Laconia, New Hampshire where she was a graduate of her beloved Laconia High School Class of 1950. Ann graduated from Westbrook Junior College for Women in June of 1952. On Memorial Day in 1957 she married Dr. Richard Frank Hood and moved to Boscawen for a brief period of time before settling in Concord. She was an active member of The South Congregational Church where she taught Sunday school and served on several committees and helped organize social functions. Other activities included being an enthusiastic member of the Concord Junior Service League, a den mother for her sons Cub Scout troop and a leader for her daughters Girl Scout troop. She resided on Norwich St. from 1959-1981 when she and Dick moved to Mountain Road in East Concord and became the first residents in the Blye Farm Condominiums where she served on the association’s board. In 1992 Ann and Dick moved to the house that her father, Clifford had built in 1940. In 2007 they moved to Woodside at the Taylor Community. She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Richard F. Hood and her older sister, Nancy G. Rich of Laconia. Ann is survived by her five children: Nancy Ann Hood of Laconia; Gregory Graham Hood and his wife Linda of Manchester and their two sons Peter and Eric; Andrew Herbert Hood and his wife Beverly of Narragansett, Rhode Island and their two children Kathryn Baker and her husband Adam, and Michael Cartier; Deborah Harris Hood and fiancé David Glover of Barrington and her two sons Trevor Messineo and Justin Messineo and his wife Valerie; Diana Elliott Palmer and her husband Mark of West Covina, California and their son Jacob. She also leaves a brother-in-law Paul Rich of Laconia; sister-in-law Nancy Morrill and her husband Arthur of Meredith; brother-in-law Herbert Hood and his wife Jody of Leroy, Kansas; and is predeceased by sister-in-law Priscilla Hill and her husband Warren of Silver Lake. GILMANTON – Dorcas R. Butt, 86, of 24 Musket Trail, died Friday, March 1, 2013 at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia. She was born in Newfoundland, Canada, the daughter of Alfred and Edith Riddle. Dorcas lived in Gilmanton for 20 years, prior to which she lived in Massachusetts. She wintered for 23 years in Palm Harbor, Florida, where she made many friends and enjoyed long walks. Dorcas enjoyed shopping and was known as a person who loved to help others. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Fitzgerald of Gilmanton, two grandchildren; Jeff Fitzgerald of Northfield and Lori Fitzgerald of Belmont and one great grandchild, Zachary Thompson of Belmont. Tilton—–Heather Ann Courson, 38, of 949 Laconia Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Saturday, March 2, 2013 after a sudden illness. Heather was born May 19, 1974 in Stoughton, Mass., the daughter of Michael and Roberta (MacLean) Scaranari. She was a 1992 graduate of Plymouth South High School in Plymouth, Mass. Mrs. Courson resided in Laconia for several years before moving to Tilton a few months ago. She had been employed as a 911 dispatcher since she was 19. She had been employed by the Plymouth Police Department, Hanover Police Department, the Barnstable Police Department and since 2008, the City of Laconia. She loved fishing with her son, spending quality time with her two daughters and enjoyed camping. Heather was the true core of her family and was a loving mother, wife and daughter. Survivors include her husband of seventeen years, William “Will” Courson of Tilton; a son, Gabriel Courson and two daughters, Alexa Courson and Emily Courson, all of Tilton; her parents, Michael Scaranari of Corinth, Maine and Roberta MacLean, of Plymouth, Mass.; a brother, Michael Scaranari, and his wife, Katie, of Gilford; a sister, Lisa Scaranari of Plymouth, Mass.; several nieces and nephews and one great niece. Mary Barbara Elaine Ryan was born August 13, 1936, in Providence, RI, the daughter of John J. and Mary Burns Ryan. She received her bachelor’s degree from Mt. Holyoke College, majoring in economics and sociology. She raised her family in Shrewsbury, MA, with summers spent on Lake Winnipesaukee. Later, she split her time between Gilford, NH, and West Palm Beach, FL. Barbara is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Robert Lofblad, of Gilford, NH; her son Corey Lofblad and his children Siobhan, Olivia, and Ian, of Gilford, NH; her son Bob Lofblad, wife Pam, and children Katie and Carter, of Wellesley, MA; her daughter Carolyn Twitchell, husband Kevin, and children Ryan, Grace, and Evan, of Glen Ridge, NJ; her daughter Kristin Sullivan, husband Jim, and son Matthew, of Cambridge, MA; and her sister, Lianne Moriarty, of Old Saybrook, CT. Her first son, Michael Christopher, pre-deceased her. Primarily a wife, mother, and grandmother, Barbara also held a variety of positions outside the home. She began her career as a teacher in California, and later sold real estate in Shrewsbury. She also enjoyed volunteer work, which enabled her to chat with people from all walks of life. Barbara loved to travel, visiting many places across the US and around the world over the years. She was a consummate chef and a real “foodie.” She was a voracious reader, an avid walker, and a sharp shopper. Laconia————Leslie F. Morris, 81, formerly of 25 Union Avenue, Laconia, died at the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Tilton, N.H. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Mr. Morris was born December 28, 1931 In Meredith Center, N.H., the son of the late Uzeb P. and J. Ethel (Dolloff) Morris. Mr. Morris was a longtime resident of the Lakes Region. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and served as a corpsman at the Murphy Army Hospital in Waltham, Mass. He had been employed as a carpenter and a crane operator for many years. Mr. Morris was a member of the Laconia Christian Fellowship. Survivors include his wife, Annabelle (Lovett) Morris, of Laconia, N.H.; three sons, Steven H. Morris, James L. Morris and Scott U. Morris; a daughter, Karen E. Stewart,; eleven grandchildren, Lori Anne Branton, Kristen E. Thomas Lyon , Paul V. Morris, Eric D. Thomas, Diana E. Morris, Jennifer C. Morris Lyford, Sherry L. Morris Richards, Mark A. Thomas, Matthew J. Morris, Steven G. Morris and Micah J. Morris; fifteen great grandchildren, Kylie Kay, Amy G., Ryan J., Amy S., Joselynn, Annabelle, Jeffrey, Brianna, Abigail, Isabella, Kayly, Emily, Mikel, Levi and Zayn, and many nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Mr. Morris was predeceased by seven brothers and three sisters. There will be no calling hours. Laconia—-Elsie Louise (Lightfoot) Smith, 92, of 227 Ledges Drive, Taylor Community, died after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 with family at her side at the Lakes Region General Hospital. Elsie was born January 6, 1921 in her parents’ home at 29A Pine Street, Attleborough, Mass. She was the daughter of the late Harry Card and Annie Stacy (Read) Lightfoot. . She is predeceased by her sister Helen Wild and brothers Austin, Harry, Donald and Lloyd Lightfoot. She graduated from North Attleborough High School in 1938. She resided in North Attleborough, Mass. for over eighty-five years before moving to the Taylor Community in Laconia, N.H. seven years ago. She enjoyed making many new friends at Woodside and was able to enjoy the cultural opportunities, trips and was proud to be the Wii bowling team champion in 2010. On April 16, 1933, Elsie became a member of The Methodist Episcopal Church, North Washington Street, North Attleborough, Mass. She was a lifetime member of this church and served as a Sunday School teacher, Church Treasurer, choir member and on many church committees. On December 5, 1943, Elsie married Clarence Roy Smith of Morse Street, East Foxborough, Mass. At that time, he was stationed with the U.S. Army at Selman Army Airfield in Monroe, Louisiana. After returning home at the end of WWII, her two daughters were born. In 1951, Elsie joined the staff of the Attleborough Savings Bank as a teller trainee. After thirty-four years of service, she retired in 1985 as a Vice President and Branch Administrator. After retirement Elsie enjoyed traveling with friends, learned to play the organ, volunteered her time in the office of the Visiting Nurses Association in Attleboro and created many beautiful ceramic treasures for her family. Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Brallier and her husband, Stan, of Laconia and Cathy Gowen and her husband, Burt, of Keene, N.H.; a sister, Blanche Ilmonen of Laconia; three grandchildren, Mark Allen of Contoocook, NH, Scott Brallier of Clemmons, NC and Brian Gowen of Keene, NH; six great-grandchildren, Katherine, Aaron and Caroline of New Hampshire, and Emma, Laurin and Andrew of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Hoppin Hill Avenue, N. Attleborough, Mass. The burial service will follow at the family plot in Paine Cemetery, North Attleborough, Mass. The interment will be followed by a reception at the United Methodist Church. Gilford —- Roland R. Bousquet, Sr., 79, of 1 Hedgewood Circle, died at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H. on Friday, March 8, 2013. Mr. Bousquet was born September 1, 1933 in Somersworth, NH, the son of Albert and Merilda (Plante) Bousquet. He resided in Laconia, NH for seventy years, before moving to Gilford, NH five years ago. Mr. Bousquet was the co-owner and general manager for twelve years of Capt Bob’s Fish Market in Laconia and Concord, NH. He was a member of the Army National Guard and American Legion. Mr. Bousquet was a most passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Lois (Matott) Bousquet; his five children, Linda Bousquet, Cindy Benton and Kevin Morris, Dawna and Ray Ozzie, Debbie Blixt, Roland and Kathy Bousquet; his brother, George Bousquet; his ten grandchildren, Michelle, Janelle, Eric, Christine, Lura, Neil, Jill, Barry, Jaclyn and Julia; and his eleven great-grandchildren. LACONIA – Larry Fortin, 86, of Franklin Street, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Laconia Center. A loving and devoted husband of 63 years to Kathleen. Survived by wife Kathleen Fortin and 4 daughters, Marie LaLena (Peter deceased), Patricia Fortin, Ann Desroches (Dave deceased) and Kathleen Fortin. Two sons, Thomas Fortin (Deborah) and Lucien Fortin (Nancy). Seven grandchildren, Brendyn, Liam, Michelle, Cassandra, Justin, Kyra and Timothy. Loving and devoted husband and father. Avid hunter, fisherman and believed in sharing the fruits of the land. Larry had many accomplishments in his life. Honorable discharge from the United States Navy. Brooklyn Navy Yard. First US Postal Service mail carrier for Woodbury, NY. A volunteer fire fighter in Woodbury, NY. Well known and respected handy man in the Woodbury area for many years. Built 3 homes on Long Island and 1 in New Hampshire. Moved to New Hampshire in 1990 and was well known in the Laconia area. Larry worked for NHAB radio station selling air time for local businesses. Larry taught Bow Hunters Safety Classes in New York and New Hampshire. Larry was a devote Catholic and served as a Lector and Eucharistic minister for Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic church. Larry wrote a weekly article called Woods and Waters for the Laconia Daily Sun. Larry was involved in the Streetcar Company as part of the chorus and stage crew. Larry’s volunteer work included the Opechee Bay cleanup and Lakes Region General Hospital. Larry enjoyed growing his own Blueberries, Rasberries, Peaches, Apples, Strawberries and Plums. He shared the results of his effort with many in the way of jam (not jelly)and cider.Larry worked and played hard all his life. We will forever keep him in our hearts. Our thanks to the wonderful staff at Genesis Rehabilitation Center for making Larry’s final days peaceful and comfortable. Belmont—–Ronald Ouellette, 66, of 207 Bean Hill Road, died at the Dartmouth- Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H. on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Mr. Ouellette was born October 30, 1946 in Sanford, Maine, the son of Joseph F. & Alice (Gagne) Ouellette. Mr. Ouellette was a longtime resident of the Lakes Region and had resided in Belmont for the past twelve years. He graduated from Laconia High School in 1965, attended Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and graduated from Belknap College with a Business Degree. He was co-owner of Lakes Region Toyota-Saab, a realtor and general manager at Calley & Currier Crutch Factory in Bristol. He had been a building contractor for over twenty-five years and for the last ten years was owner of Sher-Ron Builders. Ron enjoyed riding motorcycles with his wife. He was an avid outdoorsman who spent countless hours in the woods of New Hampshire with his son in pursuit of whitetail deer. Some of his other interests included skiing, fishing, gardening, and leading a health-conscious life. Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Sheryl (Read) Ouellette, of Belmont, N.H.; a son, Geoffrey T. Ouellette, of Gilmanton, N.H.; his mother, Alice Gagne Ouellette Visocchi, of Bedford, N.H.; two sisters, Celeste M Nelson and Carmen O Kupetz, both of Manchester, N.H. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph F. Ouellette, in August 1965 and by his stepfather, Bennie Visocchi.
